What is Hikipedia?

Turn your hike into an interactive and playful hunt !

Have you ever been on a hike with kids ? Keeping them entertained and active can turn into a very tricky challenge, right ? Well that's the challenge that Hikipedia took ! Thanks to its recognition technology, hikipedia can recognize any animal or plant just with a photo. Thus, Hikipedia makes hiking fun and interactiv. Walk, observe and learn.

What inspired us

We thourougly think that the beauty of nature needs to be shared, especially to kids. In fact, Hikipedia was born from a finding; young children are less and less attracted to outdoor games. Indoor games, especially video-games take a huge part of children's playing time. How to tackle this issue ? Make outdoor activities fun ! Hikipedia makes hiking more than just a sportive and familial activity ... it makes it playful and fun.

Technical details

Hikipedia uses various technologies:

  • Image recognition technology
  • Hikipedia's goal is to recognize any animal or plant from a photo you took with your phone. To do so, Hikipedia uses a technology Which is image recognition. Image recognition refers to technologies that identify places, logos, people, objects, buildings, and several other variables in images. Users are sharing vast amounts of data through apps, social networks, and websites. Additionally, mobile phones equipped with cameras are leading to the creation of limitless digital images and videos. The large volume of digital data is being used by companies to deliver better and smarter services to the people accessing it. Thus, our technology works by comparing selected images from given images within a database. This leads us to the other technology component of our application:databse

  • Database
  • A database is an organized collection of data, generally stored and accessed electronically from a computer system. This is the sort of giant library that Hikipedia needs to recognize any photo you take during a hike ! Thus, the first step here to gather and to organize the data. Unlike humans, computers perceive a picture as a vector or raster image. So after the constructs depicting objects and features of the image are created, the computer analyzes them. Then, the data is organized — the important information is extracted, and the unnecessary one is left out.

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • What makes all the features of image recognition possible is AI !With the help of AI, image recognition system maps features from an image and then compares this information with a database to find a match.
